Submit your 2023 worker service return with QLeave

26 June 2023

QLeave helps building and construction workers in Queensland get the long service leave they’ve earned.

What do I need to do?

As an employer in Queensland’s building and construction industry, you must submit a worker service return by 31 July each year. When completing your return, you need to give details about who worked for your during the financial year and the days they worked.

QLeave adds the service you report to each worker’s registration so that it counts towards their overall long service leave benefit. Workers can easily see how close they are to taking a break by checking their service record online at any time

How to submit your worker service return to QLeave:

  1. Log in to online services.
  2. Start your new workers: you need to start new workers who joined your business in 2022-23 before completing your return. If you’re registering a worker who isn’t new to the industry, you will need to ask them for their QLeave ID number. Doing this will help to avoid creating a duplicate registration for the worker, and will mean they don’t lose track of their service.
  3. Add service for your workers: you can complete your return either by entering information for your workers directly into the online return, or by downloading a spreadsheet.
  4. Submit your service return to QLeave: once you’ve added service for each of your workers, you can submit your return to QLeave. QLeave may need to assess whether some of your new workers are eligible, so if they have a status of pending you won’t be able to submit their service immediately. However, this won’t impact your existing workers so you can submit a partial return for them, and log back in later to finalise your return once QLeave has approved your new workers.

What are the benefits?

It’s free for workers and employers to be registered with QLeave. By meeting your employer obligations you’ll help your workers receive the long service leave they’ve earned.

If you pay long service leave to a worker who has been with you for 10 or more years, you may be able to claim reimbursement from QLeave for some, or all, of the payment.
