The major changes to the national building code relate to Accessible Housing and Energy Efficiency, but the Queensland Government is not fully measuring the impact.
It’s true that future provisions are needed for the elderly and people with disabilities, and to ensure more sustainable homes into the future, but the benefits won’t be realised if not introduced properly.
The Queensland Government needs to give serious consideration to the following issues upfront:
- How will they address all the technical problems raised by the industry?
- What about the significant new time pressures and costs they will force onto builders and homeowners?
These questions need answers and more time, or we risk housing affordability going from bad to worse.
