Construction Skills Queensland Skills Assessment and Gap Training Funding

Construction Skills Queensland is an independent, not-for-profit, industry-funded body supporting employers, workers, apprentices, trainees and career seekers in the building and construction industry.

CSQ provides funding to reduce the financial obstacle to training, making upskilling an affordable option for many more individuals in the construction industry.

CSQ eligibility:

Must be ONE of the below: 

Requirement – Right to Work in AustraliaEvidence

Australian or New Zealand Passport (Up to 6 months from expiry) OR

A Visa holder with relevant permission to work.
N.B. This does not include International Student Visas

Employer letter (on letterhead dated and signed by the employer) confirming the participant has the right to work in Australia and undertake study. Must include Visa number and provide copy of Visa.

*A commemorative birth certificate cannot be accepted

An Eligible Worker: Employed in Queensland within the Building & Construction Industry.

Who is eligible:

Employees workers, substantially engaged, in the Queensland residential building and construction industry doing:
- construction, renovations and extensions of residential and commercial buildings
- installation services for interiors of residential and commercial buildings in associated trades; electrical, plumbing, flooring etc.
- works on a CSQ designated Major Project - construction of infrastructure

Employed workers, substantially engaged, in the Queensland civil construction industry doing:
- land development and site preparation for the purpose of construction
- works for civil infrastructure
- works on a CSQ designated Major Project - construction of infrastructure.

QLeave Building and Construction Member Statement (current statement showing credits within last 4 years) along with confirmation that the participant is undertaking work within the Queensland building and construction industry, e.g., pay slips showing employment at a Queensland building or construction company OR
Relevant current Licence (as per listing)* along with confirmation that the participant is undertaking work within the Queensland building and construction industry, e.g., pay slips showing employment at a Queensland building or construction company OR
Employer letter (on letter head and signed by the employer) confirming employment, role and duties in the Building and Construction industry OR
Statutory Declaration providing details of employment including role and duties within the Building and Construction Industry.

Self Employed

An Eligible Self-Employed Worker: Works in Queensland within the Building & Construction Industry.

Who is eligible:

Self-employed workers, substantially engaged, in the Queensland residential building and construction industry doing:
- construction, renovations and extensions of residential and commercial buildings
- installation services for interiors of residential and commercial buildings in associated trades; electrical, plumbing, flooring etc.
- works on a CSQ designated Major Project - construction of infrastructure

Self-employed workers, substantially engaged, in the Queensland civil construction industry doing:
- land development and site preparation for the purpose of construction
- works for civil infrastructure
- works on a CSQ designated Major Project - construction of infrastructure.

ABN/ACN registration showing ownership and
Two invoices for recent work in the industry, must include company details, ABN, business name, address and details of work performed for the client OR
Statutory Declaration providing details of employment including role and duties within the Building and Construction Industry.
An unemployed eligible worker (unemployed for a period not greater than 4 years who would otherwise meet the requirements of an Eligible Worker).Statutory Declaration providing details of relevant employment including role and duties within the Building and Construction Industry.

Participants must be able to demonstrate RPL in 70% or more of the competencies, only 50% of which (i.e., of the 70%) can be Credit Transfers. Students who already hold a CERT III will need to supply the CERT III qualification with a record of results (including units of competency achieved) prior to being approved for funding as there is a maximum of seven (7) credit transfers for eligibility under this contract.Assessor’s Marking Guide and a copy of qualification including record of results.

Participant seeking a verification of competency 

Currently enrolled and participating in a Higher Qualifications Program in the same contract term.

Contract term: 1/10/2022 - to 30/09/2024.  Also, if you already hold a Cert III trade qualification then you can only complete the Cert III in Construction Waterproofing if it's relevant to the construction work you're performing. For example, wall and floor tiling, structural landscaping, carpentry etc.
Employees of other industries- Automotive: Vehicle repairs and maintenance including Mobile plant machinery 
- Arts, Culture, Entertainment and Design:  Theatre productions including stage and set services. Live Production Services Film and Television production including studio, stage and set services
- Amenity Horticulture and Landscaping:  Arboriculture, Gardening Services, Turf and Sports Turf Management, Retail Nursery and Nursery Production.
- Amusement Leisure & Recreation:  Aquatic Attractions, Events and Festivals,
Go Karting, Indoor Play & Family Entertainment Centres, Theme Parks and Outdoor Attractions, Manufacturers and Professional Services supplying the industry, Transportable Rides and Attractions, Engineers related to the industry.
- Maritime:  Marine Industry General Purpose Hands Coxswains, Marine Engine Drivers, Engineers, Surveyors Deck Officers, Ships Masters, Cooks, Integrated Ratings Marina Operations.
- Metal, Engineering and Boating:  Primary Metal and Metal Product Manufacturing
Fabricated Metal Product Manufacturing, Machinery and Equipment Manufacturing
Repair and Maintenance, Other Transport Equipment Manufacturing – Including Shipbuilding and Boatbuilding, Other Manufacturing.
