North Queensland Awards highlight talent, tenacity, and transformation

A luxury sustainable home, a cutting-edge educational facility, and a residence that perfectly captures the essence of North Queensland living claimed the spotlight at the region’s 2025 Housing & Construction Awards.

The highlight of the industry’s annual events calendar, the Awards were held at The Ville, Townsville on Saturday 2 August.

Gedoun Constructions repeated their 2023 success, winning the coveted wilson ryan grose Lawyers House of the Year Award, as well as Best Residential Bathroom and Individual Home from $550,000 up to $700,000 for the impeccably executed Jensen Home, redefining sustainable living in an exceptionally functional and beautiful abode.

Townsend Constructions NQ swept the pool with four gongs, including the prestigious BUSSQ Building Super President’s Award for Evaria Project, seamlessly blending timeless Queenslander design with modern living. The Townsend team also won both Best Residential Swimming Pool and Home Renovation Project from $600,000 up to $750,000 for The New Chesney, a home that ‘feels like a holiday every day;’ and best Home Renovation Project up to $300,000 for Philp Cottage Revival, transforming a classic Queenslander while retaining its character.

BESIX Watpac put their signature brand of exceptional coordination and execution to work on the state-of-the-art James Cook University – Engineering and Innovation Place project, earning the highly-regarded QSG Project of the Year Award, and best Education Facilities over $10 million.

Zeina Vivian of ANV Painting was honoured with the Women in Building Award, in recognition of her mission to create a more equitable, supportive, and forward-thinking construction environment, and her work as a mentor with Master Builders’ Emerging Women in Construction Program.

The third new building delivered by BESIX Watpac at the Townsville campus, this project was delivered with exceptional coordination and execution under extremely challenging conditions. The state-of-the-art STEM facility seamlessly blends innovation with educational purpose. A dramatic atrium built from 150-year-old recycled Jarrah delivers an immediate WOW factor, enhanced by striking staircases and tiered seating. Our judges were impressed by the high-quality finishes from the BESIX Watpac team, resulting in an inspiring learning environment for students, staff, and visitors alike.

Uniting timeless Queenslander design principles with modern living, the Evaria Project has been crafted specifically for the North Queensland climate and lifestyle. Expertly planned to maximise its location and outlook, the home features free-flowing, spacious living areas that offer both comfort and functionality. Townsend Constructions NQ managed remote communication and weather delays with transparency and flexibility to deliver a seamless result. Our judges praised the team for the high-quality finishes of the home, elevating its sense of luxury and refinement.
