Sold-out Awards night showcases Brisbane construction’s best & brightest

26 July 2025

An iconic project spanning four city blocks, a breathtaking home embedded into its lush hillside environs, and an architectural multi-residential masterpiece have taken top honours at the 2025 Brisbane Housing & Construction Awards.

The who’s-who of the Queensland capital’s building and construction industry gathered for a glamourous sold-out event at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Saturday 26 July.

MCD Construction made it a triple for the breathtaking Birdwood House, winning the coveted Xact Accounting House of the Year Award, plus Individual Home from $5 million up to $10 million and Best Use of Sloping Sitesthe team praised by the judges for a feat only achievable by a handful of residential builders in Brisbane.

The BUSSQ Building Super President’s Award honoured the work of Graya Multi-Res on the sweeping New Farm beauty, CHALK. Boasting luxurious lifestyle features and bespoke finishes, the project also won Medium Density up to 3 storeys – over 5 dwellings. The Gray family’s flagship GRAYA Construction also took home best Individual Home from $3 million up to $4 million for exclusive park-side sanctuary, DOMUS.

Multiplex Constructions Qld were applauded for transforming Brisbane’s skyline with three Awards for the Queens Wharf Integrated Resort Development. The team took home both the Professional Certification Group Project of the Year Award, Tourism & Leisure Facilities over $10 million, as well as the reintroduced Excellence in Workplace Health & Safety Award for the ingenious Safety Encapsulation Nets used during construction.

It was multi-generational family business O’Shea & Sons Builders who swept the pool with four Awards on the night.  Nick Green was named Apprentice of the Year in recognition of his rare commitment, talent and leadership as a fourth-year carpenter by day – and studies for a Bachelor of Urban Development (Construction Management) by night. The O’Shea team took home both best Individual Home from $2.5 million up to $3 million and Best Residential Swimming Pool for Kamares sto Appia – a Mediterranean marvel reflective of the homeowner’s dream to create a bespoke, sophisticated concrete home blending modern civic architecture with timeless charm; and best Individual Home from $1.5 million up to $2 million for sustainably-focused Quinta, blending innovation and exceptional livability.

Rounding out the Individual award category was Women in Building Award-winner Lilly Newton, lauded for surpassing leadership standards, her patient approach and being a motivating force in her role as Project Engineer with John Holland; and Penelope Homes founder Jimmy Gray, taking home the Rising Star Award for his leadership, business nous and commitment to quality and safety.

“With billions of dollars of hospitals, schools, and Olympic and Paralympic Games projects in the pipeline, and communities in need of private and social housing, Brisbane’s building and construction industry is both a challenging and exciting one right now,” Master Builders Deputy CEO and Awards Ambassador, Sue-Ann Fresneda, said.

“These Awards pay homage to the determination, talent and exceptional craftsmanship that Master Builders are renowned for. Our judges again had a challenging but enviable task this year, selecting the projects and people that shone brightest out of a truly outstanding field of entries.

“Each of our winners, and everyone who entered, has made a significant difference across the Greater Brisbane region. Whether that looks like crafting a modern masterpiece, breathing new life into a traditional home; leading a large commercial project, or inspiring others through their leadership and commitment, I applaud everyone for their incredible contribution to our industry.”

Major Winners

Winner of the 2025 Brisbane Xact Accounting House of the Year Award – MCD Construction for Birdwood House

“Only a handful of residential builders in Brisbane can build something that difficult.” That was the high praise from our judges for MCD Construction’s work on Birdwood House – among the most complex construction challenges in the team’s 20-year history. With immense groundwork done to integrate it into the steep site, the home boasts an art gallery, yoga room, passive cooling system, and rooftop garden, while preserving the surrounding ecosystem and wildlife. This project exemplifies modern Australian homebuilding at its finest.

Winner of the 2025 Brisbane BUSSQ Building Super Presidents’ Award – Graya Multi-res for CHALK

Graya Multi-Res has forged a reputation for superior detail, craftsmanship and out-of-the-box thinking – and CHALK is no exception. Positioned to maximise its enviable New Farm location, this 10-residence boutique project boasts three-metre ceilings, a rooftop terrace, and private courtyards, BBQs and pools. Bespoke cabinetry and seamlessly integrated materials were curated to ensure longevity, durability, and aesthetic cohesion. Our judges praised Graya’s management of complicated site works in a busy location, construction methodology, and exceptional, bespoke finishes, delivering another standout project.

Winner of the 2025 Brisbane Professional Certification Group Project of the Year Award – Multiplex Constructions Qld for Queen’s Wharf Integrated Resort Development

The Queens Wharf Integrated Resort Development is among the biggest and boldest construction projects in Queensland – and Australia. Spanning more than four city blocks, it includes three towers, retail space and casino, and a suspended Skydeck. In our judges’ words, ‘a remarkable display of coordination and craftsmanship by Multiplex, delivering textures, forms and finishes that defy expectation. This iconic development has transformed the Brisbane skyline – and stands as a powerful example of what’s possible when complex vision meets expert execution.’
