FROM world-class educational and sporting facilities, to beachside sanctuaries and hillside homes, this year’s Gold Coast Master Builders Housing & Construction Awards winners have showcased what living in the sunshine state is all about.

The Glitter Strip came to life on Saturday, 4 August as the RACV Royal Pines Resort hosted the Gold Coast’s biggest building and construction names at the annual Master Builders Awards ceremony.

Arundel-based company DTL Constructions, and national heavyweights, Hansen Yuncken were the big winners on the night, taking home House of the Year and Project of the Year, respectively.

Sanctuary Cove’s latest residential addition, The Sanctuary, took out top honours, including Individual Home over $3 million, Best Residential Bathroom and House of the Year, for its hybrid of traditional and contemporary design.

The home was a labour of love for DTL Constructions owners, Darren and Lloyd Teasdale, who pride themselves on their strong love for the craft.

Hansen Yuncken’s work on the Carrara Sports Precinct Project was also recognised in the Sporting Facilities category and as Project of the Year, with time constraints and political pressure making acollaborative contract style essential to its successful completion.

Master Builders’ Gold Coast Regional Manager, John Duncalfe, congratulated all the winners across the 50 categories.

“The standard of homes, projects and individuals entered in this year’s Awards program was extremely impressive,” Mr Duncalfe said.

“It’s been a massive few years for the Gold Coast, with preparation for the Commonwealth Games taking centre stage.

“The commercial projects completed in our region over the past year will have a positive impact on the local community now and into the future.

“The quality of the winning homes is second to none and epitomise what coastal living is all about.”

Major winners

Commonwealth Games project delivers the goods

Winner of the 2018 Gold Coast Project of the Year – Hansen Yuncken Pty Ltd

From building a sports facility on a flood plain with reactive soils to bringing to life architectural features including pop-outs and a three storey atrium, this was a complex and challenging project for Hansen Yuncken.

The Carrara Sports Precinct Projects was a $148 million investment from State and Federal Governments to host key events at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The facility was designed to have longevity and provide a community facility for the City of Gold Coast beyond the Games.

Hansen Yuncken embraced the collaborative contract style and worked well with all stakeholders.

A slice of Europe on the Gold Coast

Winner of the 2018 Gold Coast House of the Year – D T L Constructions Pty Ltd

Columns, marble, stone, arched windows and entries are just a few of the breathtaking features of this grand home at Sanctuary Cove.

Darren & Lloyd Teasdale of DTL Constructions have brought to life a master architectural design from Stuart Osman. The epitome of European style and artful elegance, this compelling 1540 sq m masterpiece spans three elevated blocks.

The finished product attests that nothing was spared or compromised on finish to create a polished and liveable home.
