Quality and cutting-edge construction sees Gold Coast builders honoured

31 July 2020

THE COAST’S builders proved they have the talent and determination to soar above the challenges posed by the global pandemic, at this year’s Master Builders Gold Coast Housing & Construction Awards.

The Awards ceremony was livestreamed to a captive at-home audience on Friday, 31 July, with more than 40 builders, projects and individuals recognised.

Luxury home builders Enclave Constructions took out the coveted House of the Year award for their stunning Surfers Paradise project, The White House GC. Inspired by the original mansion of the US governor of Alabama, this dream home also pays tribute to the family connection with Indonesia. The main staircase, consisting of marble treads with brass inlay and bespoke handrails, was highlighted as a main feature by our judges, who also noted the home’s exceptional workmanship, and attention to detail on style and form for authenticity. The White House GC was also given the nod for the best Individual Home over $2 million.

Project of the Year winner Hutchinson Builders inspired the judges with their luxurious multi-residential Northcliffe Residences, perched on the Surfers Paradise beach front. The panel was drawn to the degree of difficulty in gaining access for deliveries, and the quality of finish throughout the building, which also took home the top gong in the Residential Building (high-rise over 3 storeys) over $20 million category.

The great design, liveability features and street appeal of Hotondo Homes Gold Coast North’s Erskine 225 captured our judges’ attention, earning the Coomera project the prestigious President’s Award, as well as Best Display Home $251,000 – $350,000. Exuding a Hamptons-style feel with a coastal touch, it’s the kind of home many Australians would aspire to.

Master Builders Gold Coast Regional Manager, John Duncalfe, congratulated the winners across all 49 categories.

“The diversity and quality of building work across the Gold Coast, particularly during this time of uncertainty, is testament to the resilience of our local industry,” Mr Duncalfe said.

“As we face these challenges, it’s important to create positivity and champion our industry, and the Housing & Construction Awards do just that – even though the program looked a bit different this year.

“With projects like the stunning Ashmore City Shopping Centre refurbishment, Helensvale Homeworld extension, and Bond University Health Sciences and Medicine Extension also among the award winners, it’s fantastic to see our local communities benefiting from quality workmanship, and cutting-edge design.

“All of our 2020 entrants should be extremely proud of their efforts.”

Northcliffe Residences transforms the Surfers Paradise beachfront

Winner of the 2020 Gold Coast Project of the Year – Northcliffe Residences by Hutchinson Builders

Northcliffe Residences is a luxurious multi-residential building, positioned along the beach front of Surfers Paradise. The boutique structure presents a rare calibre of design, adding a bold new architecture dimension to the Gold Coast skyline.

The project consists of three basement levels plus a 29-level multi-storey concrete framed apartment building, containing one, two-and-three-bedroom units. The top six levels are reserved for whole-floor sub, all capturing 360-degree views. The jewel in Northcliffe Residences’ crown is the opulent penthouse, poised to become one of Surfers Paradise’s most admired addresses. Designed over two levels, it features its own private rooftop pool and entertaining terrace, all set against a breathtaking coastal backdrop.

This stunning property also features a mezzanine-level recreational area for all residents to enjoy, including an infinity pool with beachfront views, a gym, steam room, sauna and yoga area. The communal area, known as The Beach Club, also incorporates a lounge area and an adjoining private dining room.

Judges’ comments:

“Quality built spacious apartments with great balconies right on the beach. High quality kitchen and bathrooms with a functional bar with the bonus of the beachside community pool.”

“This project is an exceptional example of modern design combined with major engineering challenges. A brilliant result for both builder and client.”

Striking fusion design literally puts White House GC on the map

Winner of the 2020 Gold Coast House of the Year – "White House GC” by Enclave Constructions

With its striking Corinthians columns, stone gates delivered in pieces from Indonesia and assembled like a jigsaw puzzle, and a grand marble staircase as its centrepiece, it’s little wonder the White House GC has been listed on Google Maps as a Surfers Paradise tourist attraction.

Inspired by the original mansion of the governor of Alabama, and recalling the family’s connections with Indonesia, this home has truly delivered on the vision of its owners.

The project by Enclave Constructions took 17 months from start to finish, including demolition of the family’s 1960s-era home, which had seen all the kids grow up. Everywhere you look in this property there is another surprising little detail which when combined create a unique, open, yet comforting home.

Judges’ comments:

“Skill levels and workmanship beyond belief. The staircase is the number one feature to this home. Joinery is at another level. Attention to detail on style and form for authenticity is what makes this house the standout winner.”

“A brilliant home. Stunning exterior. Exceptional workmanship”

An aspirational Hamptons-style home at an affordable price

Winner of the 2020 Gold Coast President’s Award – Erskine 225 by Hotondo Homes

From conception to completion, the focus was on delivering a truly special home, with the design and styling process similar to the delivery of a bespoke property. The result is a home that customers can truly imagine themselves living in.

The Erskine 225 is a compact four bed, two bath double lock-up garage home, with an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge overlooking the rear patio with pool. The cathedral ceiling, four-metre-high bi-fold door and high-level window in the north-facing rear lounge and outdoor patio allow an abundance of natural light to flow through, embracing the Gold Coast lifestyle.

The Southampton façade focuses on the very popular Hamptons style with a very coastal touch that has been carried through the entire home with the use of warm timber look flooring, light grey tones, soft coastal blues, pattern tiles, chevron feature panels, 2Pac kitchen with shaker panels, herringbone tiles, soft natural and man- made stone with tumbled travertine and culture stone, weatherboards and open pergola to the front porch.

Judges’ comments:

“Handy walk-in pantry with fridge out of sight. The raked ceilings make the living area feel very airy, light and spacious. This home makes the ideal family home for great value. Plenty of detail and nice conservative street appeal.”

“Great design and liveability features. Good street appeal and value.”
