COVID-19 update: 22 July 2021

22 July 2021

All you need to know about the latest border closure and what it means for the building and construction industry.

Queensland’s border with New South Wales will close from 1am on Friday, 23 July to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread.

A border zone will be put into place, however residents living in the nominated border zone will be able to come into Queensland for a limited range of reasons, including health care, work, education, essential shopping and if they provide care to vulnerable people.

Queenslanders will be able to travel into the New South Wales border zone for similar reasons, but not further than the border zone. Queensland residents can return from non-border zone locations in New South Wales, but will need to complete 14 days in hotel quarantine.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR CONSTRUCTION

As an industry, we can continue to undertake work where required in Queensland or in the New South Wales border zone.

If you're crossing the border, we encourage you to carry information about the location and purpose of your work.

BORDER PASSES

You can now apply for a Queensland border pass.

APPLY NOW

The situation at the border can get congested and difficult, so the Queensland Police Service is asking that we have patience and have the correct passes.

MASK WEARING

Mask wearing will be extended and strengthened in the 11 South East Queensland local government areas of Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Ipswich, Logan City, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Gold Coast for one more week until 6am on Friday, July 30.

Masks will now be required to be worn in all indoor seated, ticketed venues. This includes all stadiums, theatres and cinemas.

If you leave home in the affected local government areas you must wear a mask where you can’t physically distance. You must carry a face mask with you at all times whenever you leave your home, unless you have a lawful reason not to.

Do I need to wear a face mask on a construction site?
If you’re inside on a construction site and cannot socially distance, you’ll need to wear a mask, if it’s safe to do so. The construction industry has remained open due to their successful adoption of COVID-safe practices and wearing a mask wherever possible is an essential part of this.

EXTRA ADVICE FOR MEMBERS
