Pre-purchase inspection

If you’re buying a home, it’s vital to get a building and pest inspection carried out by a professional building consultant who will inspect it thoroughly.

While an inspection won’t tell you whether the property is a good purchase, it will advise you of its condition.

A standard building and pest inspection should assess the condition of the:

• Building interior AND exterior
• Roof exterior
• Roof space
• Under-floor space
• Site.

If issues or defects are discovered during a building or pest inspection, ask the inspector or consultant to explain the consequences, such as repair costs.

If significant issues are found and you want to cancel the contract or renegotiate the purchase price, contact your solicitor immediately for advice.
